Our Hatch Innovation Lab is located at Otago Polytechnic and is open Monday – Thursday 3.30-5.30pm and Saturdays 10am-1pm.
TERM TWO FOCUS:
CONTROLLING OBJECTS THAT COULD CONTROL YOU!
We aim to shift our young people from being digital consumers to digital creators. To equip them for this, they need to understand how to ‘speak digital’ so that they can have power over what they can create in a digital world.
With many people threatened by the ‘robotic takeover’ it is important to shift the focus to equipping young people with the skills to be able to make these robots do what they need to do as well as develop understandings so that they can choose to play a role in determining the direction of robotics in solving problems in the future.
We will also learn about how to use programming to create with Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and more.
We will continue to build on the construction and 3D Design skills from Term 1 to make programmable creations.
HATCH MAKERS: This programme exposes our young innovators to a wide range of skills, tools and experiences for problem solving and creating in the 21st Century. It creates a balance between physical making and digital making. Achievement is tracked through our Hatch Eggsplorer system and focuses on the skills required to progress into the Hatch Creator group.
For young people who attend Hatch regularly, our Hatch Maker programme can be achieved over a 12-18 month period.
HATCH CREATORS: This programme is for young people who are ready to engage in deeper, more complex problem solving and project-based learning incorporating the skills achieved in the Hatch Maker programme.
It is intended to meet the needs of those aged 12+ and is currently available on Thursdays only.
Please note that Class Passes need to be paid for with PayPal or Credit Card
