Kits with the Bits You Need to Make...

Scribble Bots

Scribblebots/ Artbots help kids to understand basic electronics and design. We provide the electrical bits and you can make the most of any resources you have in the classroom…get the kids to try a range of container sizes and types.

There are a lot of tutorial videos available for Scribblebots. At Hatch we encourage children to explore different factors that influence their final design so we don’t give cookie-cutter instructions. We give the challenge and then show inspirational videos….then it’s up to the kids what they make.

Challenge: Design a ‘bot’, using the tools an equipment available, which….(your choose)….

  • draws the biggest circles
  • moves the furthest
  • jumps around the most
  • draws the smoothest circles
  • draws a shape different to a circle
  • etc.

Brush Bots

Brushbots use the same electrical system as the Scribblebots . We provide the electrical bits and you get the kids to try different brushes….or other objects that might work. These, of course, are not programmable, but this leads nicely into robotics and thinking about how the brush could be attached to a robot brain and programmed to sweep the floor!

Paper Circuits

Paper Circuits also teach students about the concept of electrical circuits. There are so many applications for using paper circuits creatively in the classroom. See the inspiration videos below.
