Games for Change

Background:

Dunedin is being established as a Centre of Digital Excellence (CODE). This initiative will build on existing gaming and digital businesses and connections with academic centres. Gaming is a multi million dollar industry in New Zealand. Strong industry players based in Dunedin include Runaway Play and Rocketwerkz

Runaway Play’s mission is focused on creating games which have a positive impact on players’ lives and which create education around nature.

We want our Dunedin young people to know that there are jobs and opportunities right here for them in our wonderful city.

Term 2 Programme:

Students  will be learning about the Fun Theory and gamification in order to teach people something new or try to change human behaviour for the better.

They will then plan and design a game concept which will meet a social need. There will be a mix of digital and physical options for students. We like to make possibilities happen at Hatch. Students will have access to 3D printers, laser cutters, robotics equipment and more to bring their ideas to life.

These ideas will then be shared with local industry professionals for feedback.

This term focuses on creativity, innovation and caring….three of our favourite words!
